I know I should rate this higher because it is a great work of art。 However， whether it was the translation or the fact it was poetry， I just had trouble getting into it。 It had some beautiful languages and it could really have done with footnotes for the references to classical persons。 Perhaps I will try this again。 But at least I can now say that I read it。

Con esta edición de Acantilado （traducción de José María Micó en endecasílabos libres）， inicié mi relectura de La Divina Comedia （o La Comedia） de Dante。 Venía precedida de buenas recomendaciones y， además salió victoriosa de una comparativa que realicé de algunos pasajes con otras ediciones， como la Abilio Echeverría en terza rima。No obstante， al terminar la lectura de "El Infierno" me pareció que a esta versión en verso le faltaba algo， que por más que el traductor hubiese mantenido una métric Con esta edición de Acantilado （traducción de José María Micó en endecasílabos libres）， inicié mi relectura de La Divina Comedia （o La Comedia） de Dante。 Venía precedida de buenas recomendaciones y， además salió victoriosa de una comparativa que realicé de algunos pasajes con otras ediciones， como la Abilio Echeverría en terza rima。No obstante， al terminar la lectura de "El Infierno" me pareció que a esta versión en verso le faltaba algo， que por más que el traductor hubiese mantenido una métrica aproximadamente constante， aquello no sonaba a poesía。 Además， un análisis más profundo de la traducción， comparándola con otras como la de Ángel Crespo en terza rima y la de Jorge Gimeno para Penguin Clásicos， en endecasílabos no rimados， reveló que la de Miró para Acantilado era la menos fiel al texto original y， encima， la menos poética （ver en Instagram）。 Por ese motivo decidí cambiarme a estas últimas para leer las otras dos partes de la obra: "El Purgatorio" y "El Infierno"。En cuanto a la obra en sí， al menos en lo que atañe a esta primera parte， renunció a hacerle al lector de esta reseña un resumen o a proporcionar comentarios detallados， pues me parece que otros lo han hecho mucho mejor que yo en los siete siglos que nos separan de su publicación。 Y por lo que se refiere a mi experiencia subjetiva durante esta relectura， me remitó a los comentarios generales que he hecho en mi minireseña de "El Purgatorio" （ver aquí）。 Me parece una obra que vale la pena leer: con momentos de gran belleza poética， llena de alegorias， de erudición medieval y de simbología teológica， y， sobre todo， de crítica política; una crítica que， quizás， haya perdido interés en la actualidad。 Con todo， creo que merece las cuatro estrellas。 。。。more

This book felt like running a marathon if that marathon were extremely Christian and used the word "pregnant" too many times to be comfortable。 I understand that it meant something else at the time and that language evolves over centuries， but were so many things holding that much anticipation， or what have you？I probably wasn't all that prepared to read this given how I could barely make it through the text after Inferno。 It felt like the author was writing about his experiences in the afterlif This book felt like running a marathon if that marathon were extremely Christian and used the word "pregnant" too many times to be comfortable。 I understand that it meant something else at the time and that language evolves over centuries， but were so many things holding that much anticipation， or what have you？I probably wasn't all that prepared to read this given how I could barely make it through the text after Inferno。 It felt like the author was writing about his experiences in the afterlife before going on a rant about how things are in the world according to the Bible and listing off a bunch of names somewhat related to whichever circle of Hell， level of Purgatory， or planet of Heaven he was on at the moment。 Then again， I should have expected this given how Jane Austen feels like this on occasion。The only reason I really regret reading this is how Dante describes Cleopatra as "voluptuous" in Inferno， and that's in the same boat as him using the word "pregnant" as many times as he did。 。。。more

What a poem。 What a mad genius poem。 I'm in love with every part of every book of The Divine Comedy。 There's so much history in it， so much mythology and religion， it is absolutely marvelous， a true book of knowledge。 It took me a couple of weeks to finish this centuries old monumental work of art which took Dante a decade to finish writing。 It makes me think of the absurdity of time and makes me question how relevant The Divine Comedy is in our days。 Reading it will surely NOT make you understa What a poem。 What a mad genius poem。 I'm in love with every part of every book of The Divine Comedy。 There's so much history in it， so much mythology and religion， it is absolutely marvelous， a true book of knowledge。 It took me a couple of weeks to finish this centuries old monumental work of art which took Dante a decade to finish writing。 It makes me think of the absurdity of time and makes me question how relevant The Divine Comedy is in our days。 Reading it will surely NOT make you understand the meaning of life， let alone turn you into a religious person （if anything the opposite is true）， but it will make you a more knowledgeable person， someone who is a bit more cultivated。 It will provide you with a different taste for art。 More importantly， Dante will take you on a heart stopping， soul searching journey through the fiery pits of Hell， the shimmering roads of Purgatory and the glorious lights of Heaven。I truly love this edition of the Divine Comedy because it delivers the poem in both italian AND french， with an explanation of many words and sentences at the end of each book。 It is a heavy read; not only will you need to analyze the poem on your own， but also will you need experts' explanations for most of it。 Every sentence has at least one hidden meaning besides the obvious one。 The Divine Comedy is a true MASTERPIECE。 。。。more

While studying abroad in Italy I went to Feltrinelli， an Italian bookshop， and decided to purchase of copy of La Comedia Divina。 I wanted to read the language I had been speaking the previous six months and it was a classic。 The book subsequently collected dust on my bookcase for years。 After purchasing a copy on Audible， I will be listening to this poem every year for the remainder of my life。 Utterly timeless。
